Treatment Area Guide

Tox Treatment Areas: Where Wrinkle Relaxers Work

Wrinkle relaxers treat more than just forehead lines. From crow’s feet to jaw slimming to lip enhancement, each treatment area has its own anatomy, dosing, and timeline. This guide covers every common area so you can have an informed conversation with your provider.

Your provider will assess your facial anatomy and recommend which areas to treat and how many units to use. You do not need to decide before your appointment.

Educational Information Only

This page is for educational purposes and does not constitute medical advice. Unit ranges and timing reflect typical reported values and may not apply to your individual situation. Your provider determines dosing based on your anatomy, muscle strength, and goals. See our full terms.

The Approach

How Your Provider Selects Treatment Areas

During your consultation, your provider will examine your facial anatomy and watch your natural expressions. They look at which muscles are creating lines, whether those lines are dynamic (visible only with movement) or static (etched in at rest), and how different areas interact with each other. From there, they recommend which areas to treat and how many units each area needs.

This is not a one-size-fits-all process. Every face is different, and your provider’s assessment determines the plan that will give you the most natural, balanced results. For more about what the consultation looks like, see our What to Expect guide.

Forehead Lines

Also called: Worry lines, Frontalis lines

Horizontal lines that form across the forehead when you raise your eyebrows. These can become permanently etched over time with repeated muscle movement.

How It Works

Small doses of wrinkle relaxer are placed into the frontalis muscle — the broad muscle responsible for raising the brows. This softens the creasing action while preserving natural expression. Your provider carefully calibrates the dose to maintain some brow movement.

Typical Unit Ranges

Botox

10–30 units

Dysport

25–75 units

Jeuveau

10–30 units

Daxxify

10–30 units

Unit ranges are typical starting points. Your provider customizes dosing based on your anatomy and goals. Dysport uses a different unit scale than the other brands. See cost guide for pricing.

All four brands treat forehead lines effectively. Dysport is sometimes preferred for this area due to its broader diffusion pattern, which can create a smooth, even result across a wide muscle.

Who May Be a Good Candidate

You may be a good candidate if you have visible horizontal lines when raising your brows, or if static lines are beginning to appear at rest. Your provider will assess whether your lines are dynamic (movement-only) or static (visible at rest) to determine the right approach.

Onset: 3–7 days | Peak: 10–14 days | Duration: 3–4 months typically

Forehead and frown lines (11s) are almost always treated together. Treating the forehead alone without addressing the glabella can cause the brow to feel heavy, because the frontalis is the primary muscle that lifts the brow. Your provider will recommend balanced dosing.

Frown Lines (11s)

Also called: Glabellar lines, Elevens, Corrugator lines

The vertical lines between your eyebrows that deepen when you frown, squint, or concentrate. Named "11s" because they often form two parallel vertical creases.

How It Works

Wrinkle relaxer is injected into the corrugator supercilii and procerus muscles — the muscles that pull the brows together and downward. Relaxing these muscles softens the vertical lines and can open up the space between the brows.

Typical Unit Ranges

Botox

15–30 units

Dysport

40–75 units

Jeuveau

15–30 units

Daxxify

15–30 units

Unit ranges are typical starting points. Your provider customizes dosing based on your anatomy and goals. Dysport uses a different unit scale than the other brands. See cost guide for pricing.

The glabella (11s area) is the FDA-approved primary indication for all four wrinkle relaxer brands. It is the most commonly treated and most thoroughly studied treatment area for cosmetic neurotoxins.

Who May Be a Good Candidate

Good candidates have visible frown lines when concentrating or at rest. This is often the first area patients choose to treat because it can make a noticeable difference in resting expression.

Onset: 3–7 days | Peak: 10–14 days | Duration: 3–4 months typically

Crow’s Feet

Also called: Laugh lines (around eyes), Lateral canthal lines

The fan-shaped lines that radiate from the outer corners of the eyes when you smile or squint. These are among the earliest lines many patients notice.

How It Works

Small injections are placed into the orbicularis oculi muscle at the outer eye area. This softens the crinkling pattern while preserving your natural smile. The goal is not to eliminate all movement, but to reduce the depth of the creasing.

Typical Unit Ranges

Botox

12–24 (both sides) units

Dysport

30–60 (both sides) units

Jeuveau

12–24 (both sides) units

Daxxify

12–24 (both sides) units

Unit ranges are typical starting points. Your provider customizes dosing based on your anatomy and goals. Dysport uses a different unit scale than the other brands. See cost guide for pricing.

All four brands treat crow’s feet well. Unit counts are for both sides combined. Your provider may adjust dosing based on how deeply your lines crease and how much movement you want to retain.

Who May Be a Good Candidate

Good candidates notice lines fanning out from the eyes when smiling. Crow’s feet are often treated alongside forehead and 11s as part of a full upper-face treatment.

Onset: 3–7 days | Peak: 10–14 days | Duration: 3–4 months typically

Lip Flip

Also called: Upper lip relaxer, Tox lip enhancement

A lip flip subtly enhances the upper lip by relaxing the muscle along the lip border, allowing the lip to gently roll outward and reveal more of the pink lip tissue. It does not add volume — that is what lip filler does.

How It Works

A small number of units are injected along the vermilion border of the upper lip into the orbicularis oris muscle. When this muscle relaxes slightly, the lip curls outward instead of tucking inward, creating a subtle, natural enhancement.

Typical Unit Ranges

Botox

4–8 units

Dysport

10–20 units

Jeuveau

4–8 units

Daxxify

4–8 units

Unit ranges are typical starting points. Your provider customizes dosing based on your anatomy and goals. Dysport uses a different unit scale than the other brands. See cost guide for pricing.

All four brands can be used for a lip flip. The unit count is low, making this one of the most affordable tox treatments. Many patients add it to their regular upper-face appointment.

Who May Be a Good Candidate

A lip flip may be right for you if your upper lip tends to disappear or curl inward when you smile, if you have a gummy smile you want to soften, or if you want a subtle lip enhancement without filler. It is also popular as a first step for patients who are curious about lip enhancement but not ready for filler.

Onset: 3–5 days | Peak: 7–10 days | Duration: typically 6–8 weeks

A lip flip lasts shorter than most other tox areas (6–8 weeks vs. 3–4 months) because the lip muscles are used constantly for eating, drinking, and talking. This faster metabolism is normal. A lip flip is not the same as lip filler — for volume, see our lip filler vs. lip flip comparison.

Masseter / Jaw Slimming

Also called: Jawline Botox, TMJ Botox, Jaw slimming

The masseter is the large muscle on each side of the jaw used for chewing and clenching. Treating it with a wrinkle relaxer may slim the jawline over time and relieve tension from clenching or grinding (bruxism).

How It Works

Units are injected directly into the masseter muscle on each side of the jaw. The muscle gradually relaxes and, with consistent treatment, reduces in size — resulting in a slimmer jawline appearance. Many patients also report significant relief from jaw pain, tension headaches, and teeth grinding.

Typical Unit Ranges

Botox

40–60 per side units

Dysport

100–150 per side units

Jeuveau

40–60 per side units

Daxxify

60–100 per side units

Unit ranges are typical starting points. Your provider customizes dosing based on your anatomy and goals. Dysport uses a different unit scale than the other brands. See cost guide for pricing.

Masseter treatment uses higher unit counts than the upper face because the muscle is much larger. Pricing works differently here — see the cost guides for masseter-specific pricing. Your provider will assess your muscle size to determine the right dose.

Who May Be a Good Candidate

Good candidates include patients with a square or wide jawline they want to soften, patients who clench their jaw or grind their teeth, and patients who experience jaw tension or TMJ-related discomfort. Your provider will assess whether tox is appropriate for your situation.

Initial relaxation: 1–2 weeks | Visible slimming: 4–6 weeks | Duration: 3–6 months

Masseter results develop differently than upper-face treatments. Muscle slimming is gradual and becomes more pronounced with consistent treatment over multiple sessions. The functional benefits (tension relief, reduced grinding) often appear before the aesthetic slimming.

Brow Lift

Also called: Chemical brow lift, Tox brow lift

A small, targeted treatment that subtly elevates the lateral (outer) brow for a more open, lifted appearance around the eyes.

How It Works

A few units are placed at the tail of the brow, targeting the portion of the orbicularis oculi muscle that pulls the brow downward. With that downward pull relaxed, the frontalis muscle can lift the brow slightly — typically 1–3mm.

Typical Unit Ranges

Botox

2–6 units

Dysport

5–15 units

Jeuveau

2–6 units

Daxxify

2–6 units

Unit ranges are typical starting points. Your provider customizes dosing based on your anatomy and goals. Dysport uses a different unit scale than the other brands. See cost guide for pricing.

A tox brow lift uses very few units. It is almost always performed as an add-on to a full upper-face treatment rather than as a standalone procedure.

Who May Be a Good Candidate

You may be a candidate if you feel your brows sit lower than you would like or if you want a more open, refreshed look around the eyes. A tox brow lift is subtle — it is not a substitute for a surgical brow lift and works best for mild brow heaviness.

Onset: 3–7 days | Peak: 10–14 days | Duration: 3–4 months typically

A tox brow lift is a subtle refinement. The lift is typically 1–3mm and is most noticeable in the lateral brow. Placement must be precise to avoid unintended asymmetry. Your provider will assess your brow anatomy to determine if this is appropriate.

Bunny Lines

Also called: Nasalis lines, Nose scrunch lines

The diagonal lines that appear on the sides of the nose when you scrunch or wrinkle it — like a bunny. These often become more noticeable after treating the forehead and 11s.

How It Works

A small number of units are injected into the nasalis muscle on each side of the nose. This softens the scrunching action without affecting breathing or other nasal function.

Typical Unit Ranges

Botox

5–10 units

Dysport

12–25 units

Jeuveau

5–10 units

Daxxify

5–10 units

Unit ranges are typical starting points. Your provider customizes dosing based on your anatomy and goals. Dysport uses a different unit scale than the other brands. See cost guide for pricing.

Any of the four brands work for bunny lines. This is a low-unit treatment that is almost always added on to a broader upper-face treatment.

Who May Be a Good Candidate

You may notice bunny lines more after starting tox on your forehead and 11s — as those muscles relax, surrounding muscles sometimes compensate, making bunny lines more visible. Your provider will let you know if bunny lines are worth addressing.

Onset: 3–7 days | Peak: 10–14 days | Duration: 3–4 months typically

Chin Dimpling

Also called: Orange peel chin, Cobblestone chin, Mentalis dimpling

The bumpy, textured appearance on the chin that some people notice when they pucker their lips or tense their lower face. Often described as an "orange peel" or "cobblestone" texture.

How It Works

A small number of units are injected into the mentalis muscle — the muscle at the tip of the chin responsible for the dimpling pattern. Relaxing this muscle smooths the chin surface.

Typical Unit Ranges

Botox

4–8 units

Dysport

10–20 units

Jeuveau

4–8 units

Daxxify

4–8 units

Unit ranges are typical starting points. Your provider customizes dosing based on your anatomy and goals. Dysport uses a different unit scale than the other brands. See cost guide for pricing.

Any of the four brands work here. Chin dimpling treatment is a small add-on that pairs well with lip flip or lower-face balancing treatments.

Who May Be a Good Candidate

Good candidates notice a bumpy or puckered texture on their chin, especially when pursing the lips. This is a subtle treatment that smooths the chin surface without affecting function.

Onset: 3–7 days | Peak: 10–14 days | Duration: 3–4 months typically

The Full Picture

Full Face Treatment

Most patients treat two or more areas together in a single visit. The most common combination is the upper face trifecta — forehead, frown lines (11s), and crow’s feet — which typically uses 40 to 64 units of Botox or Jeuveau, 100 to 150 units of Dysport, or 80 to 120 units of Daxxify.

RELUXE’s Foundation pricing model makes multi-area treatments more cost-effective. Your first 20 units are a fixed foundation price, and every additional unit is priced lower — meaning the more areas you treat, the better value per unit you get.

Many patients add smaller areas (lip flip, bunny lines, chin) to their upper-face appointment for a comprehensive, balanced approach. Your provider will design a plan that treats the areas that matter most to you.
