What is PRP and should I add it?

PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) is spun from your own blood and applied as a serum during microneedling. Your platelets release growth factors that accelerate healing and boost collagen production. We recommend adding PRP for patients treating acne scars, significant aging, or anyone wanting maximum results. It's our most popular upgrade.

How many SkinPen sessions do I need?

Mild texture concerns and maintenance: 2–3 sessions. Acne scarring and deeper concerns: 4–6 sessions. Series packages of 3 and 4 sessions are our most popular options — each session compounds the results of the last.

We apply numbing cream 30 minutes before treatment. Most patients rate comfort at 3–4/10. Forehead and bony areas may be slightly more sensitive. Overall much more comfortable than patients expect.

What is the downtime?

Expect 24–72 hours of redness similar to a mild sunburn. Some minor swelling on day 1. By day 3–4, most patients are comfortable without makeup. Avoid retinoids, acids, and vitamin C for 5–7 days post-treatment.

The Process

Your SkinPen Treatment Timeline

Free Consultation

Provider assesses your skin concerns, customizes needle depth for your goals, and discusses PRP upgrade options. Topical numbing protocol explained.

Treatment Day (45–75 min)

Numbing cream applied 30 minutes prior. If adding PRP, blood draw takes ~5 minutes before treatment. SkinPen treatment is 30–45 minutes. Serum applied immediately post-treatment.

Days 1–3 (Redness & Healing)

Skin is pink-to-red, similar to a mild sunburn. Mild tightness and sensitivity normal. Avoid active skincare ingredients for 3–5 days. Gentle moisturizer and SPF only.

Weeks 2–4 (Initial Results)

Texture improvement becomes visible. Skin feels smoother and pores appear refined. Series patients schedule next session at 4–6 weeks.

Months 1–6 (Collagen Remodeling)

Collagen continues rebuilding for 3–6 months. Results from each session compound with the next. Full series results typically visible 2–3 months after the final treatment.

Results: Most patients see visible texture and tone improvement after 2–3 sessions. Acne scarring typically shows significant improvement after a 4-session series. Results continue developing for 3–6 months post-treatment as collagen remodeling completes.
