Sculptra is made from poly-L-lactic acid — a biodegradable synthetic material that has been used in medical sutures for decades. When injected, PLLA microparticles act as a scaffold that gradually stimulates your fibroblasts to produce new collagen. Results build slowly over 3–6 months as collagen forms and accumulates. Most patients need 2–3 sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart. The results are long-lasting — many patients see the benefits of a full Sculptra series for 2 years or more.

How Radiesse Differs

Radiesse uses calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres suspended in a gel carrier. It works through two mechanisms: the gel carrier provides some immediate structural volume (similar to HA fillers, though not reversible), and the CaHA microspheres stimulate collagen production as they are gradually absorbed. Radiesse tends to have a denser, firmer feel than Sculptra and is sometimes preferred for areas requiring immediate structural correction alongside long-term stimulation, such as nasolabial folds and jawline. Duration is typically 12–18 months — shorter than Sculptra.
