Treatment Comparison

Sculptra vs. Radiesse

Both are collagen stimulators, not traditional fillers. Both build volume over time rather than instantly. But they're made differently, last differently, and suit different patients. Here's an honest comparison — including which one RELUXE carries and recommends.

The Bottom Line

Sculptra (poly-L-lactic acid, PLLA) and Radiesse (calcium hydroxylapatite, CaHA) are both biostimulators — injectable treatments that stimulate your body's own collagen production rather than simply filling space with gel like hyaluronic acid fillers. Both produce gradual, natural-looking volume improvement that develops over weeks to months and lasts significantly longer than HA fillers.

At RELUXE, we carry Sculptra — not Radiesse. This is a deliberate clinical choice: our providers have consistently found Sculptra to be the more versatile biostimulator for the facial areas we most commonly treat. We'll explain both products honestly here so you can understand the comparison, and recommend Sculptra for patients seeking biostimulator treatment at either our Westfield or Carmel location.

How Sculptra Works

Sculptra is made from poly-L-lactic acid — a biodegradable synthetic material that has been used in medical sutures for decades. When injected, PLLA microparticles act as a scaffold that gradually stimulates your fibroblasts to produce new collagen. Results build slowly over 3–6 months as collagen forms and accumulates. Most patients need 2–3 sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart. The results are long-lasting — many patients see the benefits of a full Sculptra series for 2 years or more.

How Radiesse Differs

Radiesse uses calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres suspended in a gel carrier. It works through two mechanisms: the gel carrier provides some immediate structural volume (similar to HA fillers, though not reversible), and the CaHA microspheres stimulate collagen production as they are gradually absorbed. Radiesse tends to have a denser, firmer feel than Sculptra and is sometimes preferred for areas requiring immediate structural correction alongside long-term stimulation, such as nasolabial folds and jawline. Duration is typically 12–18 months — shorter than Sculptra.

Why RELUXE Recommends Sculptra

We carry Sculptra because it is the biostimulator our providers trust most for the areas and goals most common in our patient population — broad facial rejuvenation, temple volume, cheek fullness, and jawline refinement. Sculptra's longer duration (2+ years), gradual natural progression, and versatility across multiple facial zones make it the right choice for most patients seeking a biostimulator. If you've previously had Radiesse and are curious about Sculptra, your provider can discuss the differences in detail during a free consultation.

When Would You Consider Radiesse Instead?

Radiesse's partial immediate result can be appealing for patients who want some visible change sooner while still benefiting from collagen stimulation. Some providers also prefer Radiesse for hand rejuvenation or when treating areas where a firmer gel texture is beneficial. Since RELUXE does not carry Radiesse, patients specifically interested in it would need to see a provider who offers it. We are always transparent about this and recommend patients make the choice that fits their goals — even if that means referring to a different provider.

FAQs

Sculptra vs. Radiesse Questions

Sculptra (PLLA) works purely by stimulating collagen — no immediate volume. Results develop gradually over 3–6 months and last 2+ years. Radiesse (CaHA) provides some immediate structural correction plus collagen stimulation, but lasts 12–18 months. Both are biostimulators, but Sculptra has a longer duration and is the product RELUXE carries.
