Treatment Comparison

HydraFacial vs. Chemical Peel

Both improve your skin. But a HydraFacial and a chemical peel work in opposite directions — one floods skin with hydration, one forces renewal through controlled exfoliation. Here's how to choose.

The Bottom Line

HydraFacial and chemical peels are two of the most popular skin treatments offered at RELUXE — and they sit at opposite ends of the same goal. Both improve skin quality, but HydraFacial works by infusing skin with moisture and clearing pores, while chemical peels work by applying acids to remove damaged outer skin layers and stimulate renewal from beneath.

Neither is strictly better — the right choice depends on your skin concern, your skin type, and how much downtime (if any) you can accommodate. At RELUXE, HydraFacial is available at our Westfield location. Chemical peels are available at both Westfield and Carmel. We offer a range of peel depths from superficial to medium-depth.

When HydraFacial Is the Better Choice

HydraFacial is the right choice if your primary concerns are dehydrated skin, congested or enlarged pores, dullness, and uneven texture — and you need zero downtime. It's an excellent pre-event treatment (give yourself 24 hours) and a great starting point for first-time patients exploring medical-grade facial treatments. The simultaneous cleanse-extract-hydrate action delivers visible, same-day results. Monthly HydraFacials are an effective long-term skin maintenance strategy.

When a Chemical Peel Is the Better Choice

Chemical peels are the right choice when your goals include significant pigmentation improvement (sun spots, melasma, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation), acne reduction, deeper texture work, or stimulating meaningful skin renewal. The acids in medical-grade peels at RELUXE — lactic, glycolic, salicylic, TCA — work below the surface to accelerate cell turnover. Light peels involve minimal peeling or flaking; medium-depth peels involve 3–7 days of visible peeling and a visible skin transformation afterward.

What About Downtime?

HydraFacial has no downtime — you can return to your normal routine immediately with glowing skin. Light chemical peels have minimal downtime — some redness and light flaking over 2–3 days. Medium-depth peels involve 4–7 days of peeling and temporary redness. Your aesthetician will recommend the right peel depth for your skin concern and schedule. We'll never recommend a peel that's deeper than your skin and schedule require.

Can You Combine Both?

Yes — but not in the same session. Many patients alternate: HydraFacial for months when they need a quick refresh with no downtime, and a chemical peel when they can accommodate a few days of flaking for deeper improvement. Your aesthetician can create a treatment calendar that sequences both strategically over the year for cumulative results.

FAQs

HydraFacial vs. Chemical Peel Questions

Chemical peels are more effective for pigmentation and dark spots. The acids used in peels accelerate cell turnover and reduce melanin-related discoloration more effectively than HydraFacial. HydraFacial with a brightening booster offers mild improvement, but medium-depth peels are a more powerful tool for stubborn pigmentation.
