Treatment Comparison

Botox vs. Filler

They're often mentioned together, but they do completely different things. Here's the honest, clear explanation of Botox versus filler — so you can walk into your consultation knowing what you want.

The Bottom Line

Botox (and other neurotoxins like Dysport, Jeuveau, and Daxxify) relax muscles. Dermal fillers (hyaluronic acid products like Juvéderm, Restylane, and RHA) add volume. That single distinction explains almost every difference between these two categories of injectable treatments.

Expression lines — forehead, frown lines, crow's feet — form when muscles contract repeatedly. Botox softens those by relaxing the muscles causing them. Volume loss — hollow cheeks, thinning lips, deflated temples — happens when collagen and fat diminish over time. Fillers restore what's been lost. At RELUXE, we offer both and frequently combine them in a single treatment plan for comprehensive results.

The Simplest Way to Think About It

Botox erases movement-based lines by relaxing the muscles that make them. Filler replaces lost volume by filling in the space. If you squint and see lines form — that's muscle movement, and Botox can help. If your face looks gaunt, hollow, or deflated at rest — that's volume loss, and filler is what you need. Many patients have both concerns and benefit from a combination of both treatments.

What Botox Cannot Do

Botox does not add volume, lift hollow areas, or fill in deep grooves that exist at rest. If your nasolabial folds are visible even when your face is relaxed, that's a volume and structural concern — not a muscle concern. Botox in that area won't help, and may even flatten the face in ways that look unnatural. Filler is the correct tool for those concerns.

What Filler Cannot Do

Filler does not relax muscles. Using filler to try to smooth active forehead lines or frown lines is generally not the right approach — it can look heavy or unnatural. If lines are present primarily when you're expressing, Botox addresses the source. Filler addresses the consequence of volume loss, not the cause of dynamic wrinkles.

Why Many Patients Use Both

Facial aging involves both loss of volume and changes in muscle activity and skin quality. A complete injectable plan at RELUXE often includes neurotoxin for the upper face (forehead, frown lines, crow's feet) and filler for the mid and lower face (cheeks, lips, jawline, nasolabial folds). These treatments complement each other — tox creates a smooth, relaxed canvas; filler adds the structure and fullness that make a face look refreshed and natural.

How Much Does Each Cost?

Botox foundation treatment (20 units): $280 at RELUXE. Jeuveau foundation (20 units): ~$200 after Evolus Rewards. Dysport foundation (50 units): $225. Filler ranges from $650 (Versa) to $800 (Juvéderm) per syringe. Most patients use 1 syringe per targeted area. FAQs

Botox vs. Filler Questions

It depends on your concerns. If you have forehead lines or frown lines, Botox is typically the starting point. If your primary concern is volume loss in the cheeks, lips, or jawline, filler comes first. Many patients do both at the same appointment — your provider will recommend the right order and amount during a free consultation.
